Construction aggregate, otherwise known as simply "aggregate", is a extensive class of coarse earth based material used in building, including sand and gravel, crushed stone, recycled/used concrete and geosynthetic material . Aggregates are a part of combined materials such as concrete (commonly known as cement) and asphalt concrete; the aggregate becomes support to add strength to the whole material. Due to the relatively elevated hydraulic conductivity value, aggregates are widely used in drain applications such as building foundations and drains, septic fields, retaining wall drainage, and road side drains. Aggregates are used as base matter under foundations, roads, and railroad infrastructure. In other words, aggregates are a stablizing foundation for roads and rail bases with expected and homogeneous properties. |
